Acrylic on paper painting by Berlin based artist Tommy Carman

20 x 28 cm

"These studies were made using images of fellow artist Corey Black's sculptures in anticipation of a collaborative exhibition later this year. The patterns and contours of his works were zoomed in on, rotated, and "scanned" in order to transcribe certain motifs of casting, welding and "bruising" to flat painting. Segments of text, both found and invented, were then partially superimposed on the images. My interest in language and its means of presentation regularly morphs as I subject written phrases to varying patterns and motifs inspired by Corey's work. The studies mark a certain point in the formation of a "mutual grammar" as Corey and I continue to collaborate."

All proceeds will be donated to The Endeavour Foundation to support people with disabilities.
